The Rieger organ at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church is inspired by the great organs of mid-19th century France, especially those crafted by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll in the 1850s-1860s. Its design was overseen by Notre Dame organist Olivier Latry and includes many pipes that are copies of the organ at Notre Dame.The men behind the Murdy include an organ historian, a trombone performance major, a boat builder, a former Texas Instruments engineer, an avocational gemcutter and a college dropout who studied the violin growing up and wanted to write a paper in 8th grade about becoming an organ builder.
